Riding the Christmas High

Thank heaven the past week is done and over.  Between the hours upon hours spent in the doctor's office with Aaron's mysterious illness, not too mention I spent the week before that in the medicentre myself with strep throat, parent-teacher interviews, Festival of Trees field trip, and the Buddybreak Christmas Cheer lunch... A peaceful weekend was long overdue.  Sunday evening we put up the Christmas tree.  We have quite the tradition beginning to develop between our little family.  Aaron and I assemble the tree.  All of the branches are color-coded and numbered so it works out to be a great learning activity for Aaron having to sort out the different piles of branches and then deciphering which numbers go where on the tree.  He loves it and I think it makes him feel pretty important, too.  I then apply the lights and the ribbon-- this always seem to result in a quick dash to Walmart as there always seems to be a string of lights not functioning properly and I haven't the patience to figure out which bulb is causing all the trouble.  Then follows the decorating.  While I practice extreme self-control, denying myself the strong urge to rearrange the dozens of ornaments that are quickly gathering on only the bottom branches; James helps alleviate my OCD by assisting the kids in hanging their favorite ornaments at the top of the tree. An evening this Christmas-y could only be complete by enjoying a steamy mug of Candy Cane hot chocolate....... followed by a secret rearranging of a few ornaments here and there, of course, after the kids have gone up to bed ;-)

Maggie Walt's Hidden Gems Event

This past Friday, I had the opportunity to sit/model for Kirsten at a local fashion event 'The Beauty Parlour 'was participating in.  Basically, I sat on my butt and had a glass of wine while she demo'd different hairstyles using my mop of hair.  It was a pretty sweet couple of hours to myself and I always anticipate seeing what kind of crazy tricks Kirsten has up her sleeve.  For instance, she sewed me up one sexy updo using a plastic needle and some embroidery thread- no bobby-pins needed!  Who woulda thunk?!  It was a good time and best-of-all, I was sent home with runway-ready hair and free swag to boot.

42 Days 'Til Christmas!

Three things that really ring my bell this time of year:
1. Starbucks Eggnog Latte or any holiday drink in general; Tim Horton's Christmas cups included.  Nothing says Christmas cheer like embracing a toasty warm cup of holiday-latte bliss smothered in fresh whipped cream!  Tried the Caramel Brule Latte yesterday and  thought it was fantastic!  Makes me want to get a start on my Christmas shopping!
2. Elf Yourself.  Too much fun-- gotta try it if you haven't already!  I think we make a pretty cute Elf family!
3. Elf, the Christmas movie.  An absolute favorite of mine!  Already, James the kids and I sat down to watch it just yesterday.  Aaron's a dead-ringer for the child-version of Buddy the Elf (future Halloween costume possibly?). Something to consider... 'The Code of Elves':
Treat every day like Christmas.
There's room for everyone on the nice list.
And last but not least...
The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!
Only 42 more days to go!!

Last Week in Review

We had sooo much going on last week that I haven't been able to catch up on getting it all blogged-out. Tuesday, James and I took the kids to get our H1N1 vaccin-ations. We only had to wait in line for about an hour so that part wasn't too discouraging, but the whole needle ordeal was less than desirable. But, we survived and once the day came to a close I was feeling mostly relieved. That same day, Dave, Kim and their kids arrived in town. Kim and I had a bit of a girls morning the next day visiting Kirsten at The Beauty Parlour so Kim could get her hair did (looks FABULOUS, by the way!). Friday, we had dinner for James' dad at Japanese Village to celebrate his 50th birthday; this also being the purpose for Dave and Kim's visit. Dinner, as always, was excellent-- Love their Chicken Terriyaki and the 'Happy Song' is always a hoot (Haaaappy Birfdaaaay to You ;)! The weekend was all hockey and at this point it seems for the rest of my life, this'll be the case. Oh, forgetting to mention Halloween Saturday evening (see 'Halloween Apples!' below). Sunday evening, my girl Shelley treated me to a night out at Joey Tomatoes with Kim and Brandee keeping us company. And I suppose to finish the whole crazy week off, we ended Monday evening with a bang, literally-- Fireworks at the farm!

Halloween Apples!

Okay, so I'm just going to bombard you with a million Halloween photos. Summary: It was ghoulish-good fun! We were a group of 13 kids and 12 adults-- quite the trick-or-treating posse. We started as early as possible, about 5:45ish, and were all wrapped up by 6:30. Enjoyed a hot cup of homemade cider along with Shelley's delicious brownies and finished the rest of the evening by handing out candy to the halloween-ers!

**The pumpkins are Shelley's handy work!**
